Tourist trap. We stopped by their street facing open window thinking it was a takeaway location. We were asked if we wanted to try Kobe beef for sit down or takeaway. We told them we’d get takeaway, and they brought us in and told us to wait in the restaurant. Instead, they sat us down and performed what I can only describe as an over the top performance where they took photos of us with a “certified Kobe beef” certificate, asked both myself and my partner to leave google reviews before we paid. I’m altering my previous 5 star review to reflect my actual experience. After we had the skewer, they brought out a card which read “our boss is trying to implement tipping culture in Japan” and asked us to tip each worker or both workers together as they stood there and watched us fill out the check. We were pressured into tipping after what was already expensive tiny skewer of meat (around $80 - which we expected). If you’re looking to sit down, try Kobe beef, and be entertained by some energetic restaurant workers, this could be a fun time. However, the fact that they pressured us so much throughout the experience made me feel very uncomfortable.
